Hi! I am Ángela and for this individual task, I have chosen Kahoot as my e-learning tool for evaluate.

KAHOOT

Kahoot is a free platform that allows the creation of evaluation questionnaires. It is a tool through which the teacher creates contests in the classroom for students to learn or to reinforce their learning. In it, the students are the contestants.

Regarding the functionality of the application, it should be noted that the tool is restrictive to a limited number of users at a time. Depending on what we choose (to use a personal, school, higher education, student and young student or a business account) the limits vary. For example, with a school account the limit is a hundred players without paying for a better version of the app. It is not a small number, but this would be a serious concern for this tool. Kahoot is easy for both, instructors and students to use and it has a very intuitive way of use. The tool provider offers a support platform so it works well in terms of tech support and help availability. Users can communicate by different channels (audio, visual…) and allows an adaptive engagement with material.

When it comes to accessibility, the tool has few accessibility guidelines, which puts it in minor concerns when placing it in the Rubric for eLearning Tool Evaluation. Some examples of those things that it does not comply with are: not all the content that is presented which is not text is subtitled, it does not have the possibility of interpreting the texts in sign language, it is not possible to change the size of the text, etc. It works well in supporting the needs of the diversity of users accessing the platform. Its required equipment does not go beyond what is usually available to students and teachers in the classroom. Minor concerns exist because the full use and enjoyment of all the options that the tool offers is not free of charge.

On the technical side, the tool can be embedded or fully integrated into an LMS while maintaining full functionality of the tool. Users are allowed to use the tool with any up-to-date operating system or browser and also, users don’t need to download additional software in order to use it, so it generally works well.

Regarding the mobile design, Kahoot can be accessed perfectly from a mobile device and adapts to the conditions of a smaller screen. There is also no difference between the mobile phone and the desktop version of the tool. Kahoot can’t be used offline unless you develop your imagination and create your own colour cards, so there are serious concerns in offline access.

In terms of Privacy, Data Protection and Rights, the use of the tool does not strictly require a login by the user, so there is no way that personal user information is collected and shared. It works well with Data Privacy because can keep data private and decide how and if the data is going to be shared. Content and activity data cannot be achieved, saved or imported/exported, and this is part of its serious concerns.

In the field of Social Presence, Kahoot provides only synchronous quizzes, so it would be considered a minor concern because it could also be added some asynchronous ones. Also, instructors can keep learners anonymous by using the tool and it provides technical solutions for holding learners accountable for their actions (not many because rather than uploading content, they receive it). The app is well known and easy to use, and it is quite likely that students already know how to use it, so it works well in terms of diffusion.

About Teaching Presence, the tool facilitates the teacher's ability to be actively present in the assignment, monitor it, and give feedback to his/her students. The tool cannot be customized and it is a serious concern. The teacher is able to monitor his/her students’ performance on a variety of responsive measures.

In terms of Cognitive Presence, the tool succeeds in enhancing engagement in targeted cognitive tasks that were once overly complex through other means, so the enhancement of cognitive tasks works well. Kahoot easily facilitates learners to exercise higher order thinking skills and through it, learners can constantly receive formative feedback on learning, because at the end of each round, the results are shown on his/her specific device screen, and a series of percentages on the results on the host screen, so it works well in metacognitive engagement and higher order thinking.
